IOUSA

Well I'm Thirty now and I cannot help but remiss about the blog posts my old econ teacher would make us write and post. and I can't help but admire his enthusiasm  to teach us dull-eyed seniors about the workings of our government and the budget and deficits and at that time the Fiscal Cliff of 2012. and I can't help but think of myself the sad and innocent senior and how naive I was. Everyone thought that after this self imposed problem of the economy that Congress would be able to get their act together and find a way to fix our national debt and spending and find it within themselves to help get jobs back to Americans and rebuild our economic might. Yet they did not and they failed our economy and the People. I was going to college on FASA and scholarships and loans but after my sophomore year. I could not keep up with the bills. and at that time the job markets were so tight, that I as a college student could not get a job so I was still living at home with my parents, which was a disgrace to all that I was raised to become. I never got married or had children because I could not bring myself to have a family that would have to live in this would were we are in all but name slaves to China and Japan and other nations now. our great nation was divided, destroyed, debts were called on to be paid and our old democracy could not live under the weight it made and it was crushed. now my little sister and her family know the average of 3 languages as well as English. my niece Anna speaks manadrian, Japanese  french (one of her elective classes) but how Amber was to provide for her family was amazing. I had as a high school student did the IB classes and in college the honor programs but my little sister did nothing and actually lived on the dying governments unemployment funds and survived the invasive countries came and handed help out to those in those positions but those civilians who had tried to live frugally and make the most of their lives were overshadowed by the immagrents of China, Japan ect. only those of the "homeland may receive the jobs granted by the supreme leaders, none of the enemy may hold." yada yada. I only wish that there had been some way that we the proud stupid people of the once grand United States of America had been able to change the gluttonous ways of our Government and fixed our debt. I Wonder how that would have happened. could we have done it?

Fiscal Cliff

Well this Fiscal Cliff is quite a mess.
it was originally/partly/ intentional and accidentally created. and now we have to deal with what ever evil fall off the cliff. Congress went and intentionally made deals to find a way to force everyone to agree on military cuts and domestic spending cuts so that they could figure out a deficit reduction.

but the time that they set for these breaks coincides with the expiration dates as the Jobless benefits the AMT and Medicare fixes and the debt ceilings and the tax cuts imposed by the Bush administration AND that will impact Americans as to the amount they bring home in their paycheck. and Obama wants to rightly increase taxes upon the wealthy and wont agree on a bill until that is in it. and the Republicans wont agree causing a stalemate. allowing automatic spending cuts to take affect as well as this host of other topics on top.

some say that it will once again put the People in another recession or that it wont affect us very well but as I'm sure will happen we will have a harder recession with out the cushion we had last time and we may fall into another depression.

My manifesto

My belief is that the government  should be more concerned in helping the infrastructure of the the nation. helping with the security of the nation and health of it. the road upkeep the national forest conversations and and most certianly the unemployed of the nation. which it has not done enough to reestablish the lives of the people that need the help. education is also another thing that the bigwigs want to express the importance of future. but how as a people and young adults learn and reach what they want us to be when continue to make budget cut to the education structure. cutting funding of states and then the schools them self barely making it by. the government should not be spending so much on the military when it is the children of the nation that suffer. and then make another blow to the people when they try to go to the universities of the states it is a economical blow. that but major amounts of debt into their pockets when they have yet to contribution to the society. LOWER THE PRICE OF TUITION AND COLLEGE Expediences! it is not fair to under cut the middle class so easily and then let the wealthy get richer.

I would like the government to be involved in hindering the prices to common prices from rising beyond a absurd price. like that of gas and other everyday items the american people can not be with out. but besides that the government should eliminate monopolies and other business structures that have a control on the production of a certain object. taxes should not be put upon food stuffs and not from the minimum wage and below poverty line citizens and that it should be taxing the rich of the citizenry  like the politician that raise their own bonuses because they can.

allow the funding of the areas of the nation become equal and balanced again now that  we have the army pulling out of the  east and the fiscal cliff looming. let us not anymore be the international bully  but be the quiet mediator of the problems. no more waging "undeclared" war.

minimum wage

should it be raised or lowered or abolished? that is the question and proposed for just as good reasons. lets look at it from those who wish have it raised. there are many under the poverty line and that the current minimum wage and need it to be raised so that they have a bigger paycheck to spend on more than just the outrageous space rent and the weeks worth of groceries and the gas to fill the tank of a the car to get to and from work for the next week as well. by raising it they have more money to spend and prop up our failing economy, and support themselves better. but on the flip side by raising the minimum wage it would defeat the purpose it was meant for, helping people who need more money. by raising it owners have to cut the staff to keep up with the revenue they make to meet the minimum requirement to pay workers. so they cut staff to pay those they can and they, rest are let go and they weaken the economy by becoming unemployed and on the system. not very beneficial  but it can be said to argue this point. is that if there was no minimum wage owners and payroll, CEO's will take advantage of the workers and not pay them fairly for the work they do. to keep even more revenue and cause even more problems for if so then more people will be poor and under the poverty line and that the most of the payroll will be going to those closest to the top of the chain of command. where some consider that they are payed too much already  then arguing because of that, the broken system it is already, that it should be abolished. but I believe that that last idea will be of no use and would not do anything to help. so I say let the people have more money which will in turn help the nation and create more jobs aiding in the unemployment, for it they had the money it would be better than watching people  breaking there wallet for gas and food and scrabbling to pay rent at the end of the week.when a higher minimum wage could help them.

price floors

floors where a company must charge a minimum price for a good at least. they could go over but must meet the requirement. a few things on the floors in europe is agriculture products like butter, grains ect. in hopes the price stays in a balance they buy stock of it to protect the economy and the product, so that it allows for more to be supplied next harvest. but the higher prices cause a lot of surplus in the hands of the government not the producer.

price ceilings

price ceilings are of dropped below the normal market equilibrium  to keep a price of a good at a reasonable  price to the people. I enjoy having price ceilings and I wish that there we some that were instituted upon other every day items like milk which can become extreme, bread and gas. but I am all for a lower price on gas but i do not want a repeat of history when there becomes shortages of gas instead. because gas companies could not charge as much as they do at the pump. but if there was a ceiling put upon the gas companies there would be a lot of releaved people but shortages galore. but as a person under the poverty line i would rather have shortages of gas. instead of my mom breaking her wallet for gas and scrabbling to pay rent at the end of the week.

reflective on Demand

substitutes. I remember when one good or product can not be bought by consumers for any number of reasons, like cost, supply, etc. those consumers use substitutes instead of the preferred product.

My dad is a coffeeholic, and his preferred choice of coffee is the morning roast from MJB, (at least that is  what  I think the initials are) well we were not able to buy this kind of coffee for a few months and had to buy Foldgers instead. but my dad survived, I on the other hand stopped drinking coffee because I hate the taste of Foldgers ( our substitute at the time). instead I switched to drinking tea. and I found out I like more kinds of tea than I originally drank. fruit teas are not bad at all. but well the end of the story is that after that experience my dad learned to stock up on more than one can of his coffee. I wonder what other kinds of substitutes there could be instead of tea or coffee it this kinda things happens again?

Demand Headlines

Complementary demand:    "Summers Hit Chips and Dip sales soar!"

Substitute Demand:   "Coffee Crop goes bad Coffee Drinkers Grumble as they switch to Tea, Women rejoice"

Elastic Demand:    Fitness Kick grows Sugary Sweets Sales Tank.

Inelastic Demand:  Gas rises again within the week $2.00 more. Driver outraged

"Gas and oil the life's blood to the average american here in the NW. as Gas and oil prices rise driver cringe as they fill up each week. with no end in sight till the gas crisis's end citizens look to the distant future when they hope to see a drop in the prices at the local gas station. one angered consumer commented for us  saying " I can't stop going to the pump. I drive from Portland to Mack each day. but I sometimes have to stay home to conserve gas one day to have enough the next to make it to work." other exasperated drives told us they too have similar problems. yet it seems that we all are wondering whether or not the government will step in and open up a reserve to service the need of the NW. "we can only hold out much longer" Emily Simmons told us. until refineries here in the north west open again we cannot see a foreseeable end to this madness.

well being absent sucks. but looking at the American economy makes me feel proud and yet disappointed.
Being an American where we have the freedom of speech and right to buy what we want I feel great knowing that if I want to go buy a bag of chips and salsa and a movie for my family I have the right when ever I wish to. but one thing that bugs me is that we have such freedom and that the economy its self adapts to what we 'consumers' want. but though it adapts it can throw everything to the wind if like it did during the 1930's and the Great Depression that it can cause such chaos and yet despite its advantages where other governments have health care and what not provided our nation doesn't provide free health care and other needed goodies. in a few words the quick part of what bugs me.

Opportunity Cost

Well as it is understood IB students give a lot in order to receive the IB diploma. however not all students that register for the diploma receive it for many reason: the don't finish the CAS, they don't meet the Mark bands for the Extended Essay, or any of the expensive tests we students have to pay for in order to be considered for the college credit. It's a tough road filled with stress of normal school activities and homework and then topped off with the work load of an adult. but there are simply students who strive for the advanced classes and do not care if the are apart of this amazing program. they are the Honors students.
I have great respect for such students of both categories, however I was and still consider myself and IB student. I recently had to remove myself from the exulted list of full diploma candidates. It hurt me but it has been so far one of my biggest decison that I have ever made.
I came to this school from a poorer school district where there was no honor or IB program and I was originally raised in Newberg untill Freshman year where I had always been a TAG student. so when I came back to the city I was excited and then to hear that there was a program above that of Honors I was thrilled so I did my best in my Sophmore Advanced classes so that I would be ready for the IB program. to catch up I even went to PCC over the summer to be in Spanish III (the high school I was originally in did not offer spanish to freshmen). and I got a 4.0 there. so entering IB program was a breeze. untill the end of Junior year my spanish teacher wanted me to stay behind in Spanish III again because I lacked a fludity needed for the spansh IV. (mind you i skipped from spanish I my sophomore year to spanish III my Junior year). I was crushed but now that had even put more stressed because of the Extened Essay and my summer CAS and then trying to decide if I should take both Spanish III and IV at the same time or if I should move back down into spanish III or any number of combination and that I was worried about moving into IB Precal. (I am not strong in math). stressed as I was and then even having family stress at home contrubited to my choice to move down to Certificate Candidate. that was my choice last year.
now as the new school year started I felt that it was strange not being a full IB Student. and stung but as I felt  better about my new found room to fly I realized that I truely didn't need to take spanish III, I had acculimated up to 12 credits from PCC and I didn't need anymore so then I choose to drop the extra Spanish class and take another fine arts class.I can say so far that I have less stress and less ability to earn extra college credits while I'm still in High School. but for now I say that this was a good choice I'm not constantly visiting the doctor on stress problems. However, as I approach my last year in public school I wonder if I had chosen correctly. What was the Oppotunity cost of dropping down from full IB and then the other extra Spanish class? How will this affect my life a future aspects my life/ college endevors?

Scarcity, yo

ideachampions.com: picture from.

Well with the start of a new school year. the rush of homework, classes, lunch and more classes and the after school activites then even more homework there is never enough time for everything that needs to be done, not even enough for some personal rest time. I'm just feeling stressed and strung out. If only there was more hours in a day.
